WTO criticizes EU AD policies toward Chinese steel fasteners

Cankao Xiaoxi quoted World Trade Organization as saying that the European Union way of imposing extra duties on the imports is considered to be an unfair pricing method breaks global trade law.

If the rulings got further confirmed, China would be a winner who against the EU at the WTO.

The final report will probably be distributed to the two sides next month and made public several weeks after that. Both parties have the right to appeal.

The decision comes a year after China lodged a complaint against EU over the 27 nation bloc plan to impose five year duties on the steel fasteners imported from China, valued at about EUR 575 million in 2007. The EU said at the time that the tariffs would prevent further distortions and restore fair competition.

Mr Lu Xiankun China spokesman for China mission to WTO, declined to make further comments, as did the WTO and the European Commission, the EU's Brussels based executive.

The ruling may have broader implications by compelling the EU to begin imposing anti dumping tariffs on a company by company basis.
